Rwandatel Profile

 

Rwandatel began its operations on January 3rd, 1993 as the sole provider of fixed telephony.

 

In February 2006, Rwandatel also launched both EVDO and ADSL service in Rwanda, starting in Kigali, but quickly expanding to the provinces. EVDO,

mobile internet services, one of the first of its kind in Sub-Saharan Africa, available seamlessly throughout Rwanda, providing the highest density

and highest speed coverage of most countries in the sub-region; ADSL, broadband internet connection services priced significantly lower than in

any other country of the sub-region.

 

Rwandatel believes that the latest technologies can have a tremendous impact in the developing world, thus on a country like Rwanda which

believes in emphasizing the role of ICT in creating a knowledge based economy, transforming it  into a middle income country.

As an important stakeholder in the development of Rwanda, Rwandatel has a vested interest in the welfare and wellbeing of its citizens and is an

integral part of the country’s efforts of poverty alleviation by bringing essential services to disenfranchised communities, in this case appropriate

ICT technologies.

Rwandatel is proud to be at the forefront of promoting Rwanda’s economic development through the promotion of the ICT and thus remains one of

the pillars of ICT in Rwanda.
